PARAMORE LIVE IN BRISBANE 23RD, NOVEMBER 2023 at THE BRISBANE ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE (BRIS, AUS) GIG REVIEW

Going down nostalgia lane with pop-punk legends PARAMORE! Oh, “This Is Why” we left the house indeed! I’ve never seen so many shades of orange and pink dyed hair in one room. There was also a massive poster of Hayley Williams’s new hair dye brand, “Good Dye Young”, at the entrance to the venue, possibly the best marketing at the perfect place!

Twenty years ago, Paramore made a staple name for themselves for their unique sound and kicked off their Australian tour in support of their sixth studio album, This Is Why.

Supporting act was Remi Wolf. Remi Wolf took the stage with a very colourful display with a Christmas theme, which included a giant blow-up snowman, Santa Claus, reindeer and presents. The electronic poppy music swayed the room, and the crowd sang each song word for word. Remi was energetic and used every inch of the stage, giving us 1000% stage presence. Her breath control was unreal, considering the constant running and jumping around. She sounded insane. She was a perfect opening act for Paramore to set the scene.

Paramore then graced us with their presence, playing their second show in a row, treating us with two hours of paramoresomeness. You First was the first track they played from This Is Why, showing us that we were definitely in for a wild night as they had large cannons of red confetti blown into the air. A few songs in, they blessed us with “That’s What You Get”, which had everybody out of their seats dancing and screaming the song for each word. Towards the song’s end, a loud confetti cannon boomed into the crowd, bringing the music to life.

Playing hit after hit, primarily songs from their new Album This Is Why, they also gave us a few teasers from Brand New Eyes and RIOT!. When they played “The Only Exception,” I saw a few tears in the crowd, putting everyone on a Paramore emotional rollercoaster. The entire room lit up like fireflies, with people swaying their phones and flash torches in the air. Hayley gave an emotional speech on the song and mentioned, “We wanted to show the world that we could play with all these tough bands, but right in the middle of it, we wrote the softest and sweetest song we’d ever written…For our entire career, you guys have held us up and kept us company. You made us feel welcome and safe, and no matter how many stupid decisions any of us could have made in our personal life, no matter how many times the band almost broke up in front of you, and no matter all the drama, you guys were the only exception.” She then says that we, the fans, have become such a close-knit ‘Paramore family’ and deserve something raw.

Up next was ICONIC Misery Business, from the revolutionary album RIOT!, which has become a battle for Williams’ attention among fans, with diehard fans making signs to join Hayley on the stage. Poor Hailey took a tumble on the stage and picked herself back up before picking her favourite sign. She stopped the song and said that last night, there was a sign she really loved and invited these girls back tonight to showcase their artwork. The sign read “Dykes on the Mic”. The two girls lived their moment on the stage until it was time to say goodbye.

Closing with This Is Why, an array of “This” Is” “Why” red and white strips of confetti papers splattered into the room, having fans rush to collect them off the floor.

For those fans from the beginning, it’s hard not to stay devoted to the evolution of the band’s genre and style. Paramore has been a pop-punk legend, an ageless and timeless band. People of all ages gather to see this magical band that is Paramore. I saw parents with their children both enjoying every moment of the show, which proves that time after time, the band won’t expire if they continue to deliver such masterpiece albums.
